Ideas For Subtle Valentine's Day Decor

So despite being a designer, I am not really into seasonal decorating.  I chalk it up to being part cheap / part lazy.  It’s exhausting putting things up and then taking them back down in a few short weeks! I also feel like going overboard with decorations is unnecessary and can easily become tacky.  But there is definitely a tasteful way to do it and well…fai come ti pare!   (I’ve been studying Italian - the language of love!) With Valentine’s Day around the corner, let’s explore ways you can get your house into spirit without looking like a Hallmark store.  We all know the main theme is LOVE and who can’t wrap their heads and hearts around love?  Love should be felt and expressed everyday but having an excuse to stop and express it to the ones you really care for is rewarding and fun!  Infusing a little love decor into your home is a fun way to get in the spirit.

So with that being said, here are some suggestions on how to add a little valentine flair to your home:

Throw Pillows: Incorporate red or pink toned throw pillows into your existing decor. They can be placed on sofas, chairs, or beds to add a pop of color.  Just make sure it blends and works with your current decor so as not to throw off the entire room.

Candles: Place red, pink or blush candles in candle holders throughout your home. The warm glow will create a romantic ambiance.

Artwork: Swap out or temporarily add red artwork or prints to your walls. It could be as simple as changing the frames on existing artwork to red ones. Or use this as an opportunity to showcase your child’s work!  Keep them busy with an art project and then make them feel super proud by displaying their creation.

Rugs: If you have a neutral-colored rug, consider adding a small red accent rug in key areas, such as the entrance or living room. Again, only recommendable if it works in the space.

Dishware: Use red dishes, glasses, or mugs in your kitchen or dining area. This is a subtle way to tie in the Valentine's Day theme without overwhelming the space.  Think VINTAGE.  There is some gorgeous red and pink vintage glassware out there as well as vintage floral china to bring in the Valentine spirit.

Books and Magazines: Stack red-covered books or magazines on coffee tables or shelves. This is a simple way to infuse the “love color" into your decor.

Decorative Accents: Introduce small red decorative items, such as vases, bowls, or figurines, to different rooms in your home.

Remember, keep it simple and sweet but just enough to get the heart tingling.  Saluti! ♥️
